Healthcare Assistant / Clinical Support Worker

Role Summary

The Excel Health Healthcare Assistant will work alongside registered nurses and doctors to provide safe, compassionate and person-centred support in patients’ homes, community settings and the Excel Health clinic.

This role is particularly suitable for individuals interested in developing a long-term healthcare career, with access to structured training and mentorship from experienced healthcare professionals and internationally experienced clinical educators.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support patients with activities of daily living.
  • Assist with personal care, hygiene, grooming and mobility.
  • Support elderly and vulnerable patients at home.
  • Take and record basic observations following appropriate competency training.
  • Support blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation and weight monitoring.
  • Assist patients with remote-monitoring equipment.
  • Support appointment preparation and follow-up.

  • Assist registered clinicians during home visits where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate care documentation.

Healthcare Assistants would not independently diagnose, prescribe, administer restricted treatments or undertake procedures outside their assessed competence and delegated scope.

  • Previous healthcare/caregiving experience desirable but not always essential.
  • Relevant healthcare assistant/caregiving qualification advantageous.
  • Compassionate and patient-centred approach.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Willingness to undertake competency-based training.
  • Basic digital literacy.
  • Reliability and professionalism.
  • Ability to work under appropriate clinical supervision.

Training & Development Opportunity

This could become one of Excel Health’s strongest recruitment propositions.

Successful Healthcare Assistants will have access to a structured Excel Health Clinical Support Development Programme, potentially including:

  • Healthcare Assistant induction.
  • Basic Life Support.
  • First Aid.
  • Infection prevention and control.
  • Safeguarding.
  • Patient confidentiality and data protection.
  • Vital-sign measurement.
  • Recognising and escalating the deteriorating patient.
  • Elderly and home-care skills.
  • Communication and patient-centred care.
  • Digital-health documentation.
  • Remote patient monitoring.
  • Chronic disease awareness.
  • Practical competency assessments.

International Clinical Education

Where appropriate, training and mentorship may be delivered or supported by internationally experienced clinical educators and healthcare professionals, giving staff exposure to internationally recognised principles of patient safety, clinical education, competency assessment and professional development.

I would use this wording rather than saying “internationally certified” unless the programme actually awards an internationally accredited qualification.

Career Progression

Healthcare Assistant → Senior Healthcare Assistant → Clinical Support/Patient Care Coordinator → Team Lead

Staff who subsequently obtain recognised professional healthcare qualifications may also be considered for progression into appropriate regulated clinical roles, subject to professional registration, competence and available vacancies.

KPI Expectations

  • Patient satisfaction ≥ 85%.
  • Visit completion and punctuality.
  • Accurate and timely documentation.
  • Compliance with delegated care plans.
  • Appropriate escalation of clinical concerns.
  • Completion of mandatory training.
  • Successful competency assessments.
  • Professional conduct and teamwork.
  • Compliance with safeguarding and infection-control requirements.

Pathway to Full Employment

  • Initial 3–6 month probation/development period.
  • Completion of mandatory training.
  • Demonstrated clinical competencies.
  • Positive patient and supervisor feedback.
  • Consistent attendance and reliability.
  • Opportunity for permanent employment and career progression.

Yes. If you mean a Finance/Accounts role for Excel Health Nigeria, I would include one because you are handling salaries, clinical payments, suppliers, pharmacy/lab stock, subscriptions, corporate packages and potentially investor/shareholder funds.
