Finance & Accounts Officer / Finance Operations Lead
Role Summary
The Finance & Accounts Officer will oversee the day-to-day financial operations of Excel Health Nigeria, ensuring accurate financial records, effective budget control, timely payments, regulatory compliance and transparent financial reporting.
The role will work closely with the CEO and Executive Team to support financial planning and sustainable business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records of income, expenditure and financial transactions.
- Prepare weekly and monthly financial reports and management accounts.
- Manage staff salaries, clinician payments and contractor payments.
- Track teleconsultation and home-care revenue.
- Reconcile bank accounts and payment platforms.
- Manage invoices, receipts, expenses and reimbursements.
- Monitor departmental budgets and flag overspending.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable.
- Track pharmacy, laboratory and medical-supply expenditure.
- Support pricing and profitability reviews for Excel Health services and packages.
- Maintain appropriate financial controls and approval processes.
- Support annual budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow planning.
- Coordinate with external accountants/auditors where required.

- Maintain financial records required for grants, partnerships and investors.
- Produce financial information for Executive/Board reporting.
Requirements
- Degree/HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related discipline.
- Minimum 2–3 years’ relevant finance/accounting experience.
- Healthcare, health-tech, pharmacy, HMO or start-up experience desirable.
- Strong Excel/accounting software skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Experience with budgeting, reconciliation and financial reporting.
- High level of integrity and confidentiality.
- Professional qualification such as ICAN/ACCA/ANAN completed or in progress is an advantage.
Financial Governance & Compliance
The role should demonstrate:
- Strong internal financial controls.
- Appropriate segregation of financial duties.
- Accurate audit trails.
- Proper authorisation of expenditure.
- Payroll and statutory deduction management.
- Tax and applicable Nigerian financial/regulatory compliance.
- Fraud prevention and financial-risk awareness.
- Secure handling of confidential financial and employee information.
- Compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 when processing personal data.
Excel Health Financial Controls
I would make these particularly important because Excel Health is still growing:
No payment without evidence → No procurement without approval → No reimbursement without receipt/invoice → Monthly reconciliation → Clear separation between company and personal expenditure.
For larger expenditure, introduce an approval threshold so one individual cannot initiate, approve and reconcile the same transaction.
KPI Expectations
- Monthly financial report submitted by agreed deadline — 100%.
- Bank/payment reconciliation completed monthly — 100%.
- Payroll and approved supplier payments processed on time.
- ≥98% transaction-recording accuracy.
- All expenditure appropriately supported by receipts/invoices.
- Budget variances identified and escalated promptly.
- Accurate accounts receivable/debt tracking.
- Zero unexplained financial discrepancies.
- Timely statutory and tax-related submissions.
- Cash-flow forecast updated monthly.
Salary & Benefits
I would advertise this as:
Competitive salary, dependent on experience and professional qualifications, with performance review and opportunities for progression as Excel Health expands.
For a start-up, you could initially recruit a strong Finance & Accounts Officer and then progress the individual to Finance Manager → Head of Finance/CFO pathway as revenue and operations increase.
Pathway to Full Employment & Progression
3–6 month probation → Finance & Accounts Officer → Finance Manager → Head of Finance
Progression based on:
- Financial accuracy.
- Timely reporting.
- Budget management.
- Integrity and accountability.
- Successful audit/compliance performance.
- Contribution to cost savings and revenue optimisation.
- Ability to develop scalable financial systems.
